Happy Friday!

Is anyone else glad for the weekend? I have been solo-parenting this week while my hubby was away for work. My girls are at an age where they do a great job of taking care of themselves but it’s still a lot when there’s just one of us. And I had to take the trash bins out to the curb. I hate this chore. It’s one of the many reasons I got married, so I wouldn’t have to do it anymore, can I get an Amen?

Anyway, it made me think just how grateful I am that we get these next few years together as a family. He’ll travel a bit for work but he won’t deploy and I’ll only have to take the trash out a hand full of times!

This week also made me think of all my fellow military spouses whose significant other is deployed, out for training or underway. Ya’ll these spouses are tired, and lonely and in need of an abundant supply of Jesus, coffee and wine! Seriously, though, they need not only our thoughts but our prayers. It’s hard to parent and do life alone. Keep at it, spouses. You’re doing a great job even if you don’t think you are!

So my Friday Faves…

You guys it got cold here in ABQ this week. (ABQ is short for Albuquerque because really, it’s soooooo long and I can’t write it out. I just barely learned how to spell it, all those u’s and e’s ugh!) Anyway, really cold. Like 50’s cold. And for this girl, who spent the last three winters in SoCal and Hawaii, I can’t. I am cold all the time. Especially my feet. Come to the rescue my UGG Slippers.

My parents got them for me for my birthday last year, as we were moving back to the mainland from Hawaii. Best gift ever! Thanks again Mom and Dad. They have a rubber sole so I can walk the girls out to the bus stop, take out the trash bins let the dog out if I need to. They are so warm and soft. They make the perfect gift (Christmas hint, hint)! I have the cactus flower which is a beautiful purpley-pink but there are all kinds of colors.

Thanksgiving and Grateful posts. I love this time of year! I love reading what everyone is thankful for and why they are thankful for it. I wish it lasted all year. I love turkey and mashed potatoes and stuffing! And pumpkin pie with whipping cream, and apple pie with ice cream, and pecan pie with nothing, just pecan pie.  I love waking up and watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving day parade. My favorite part is always watching the Rockettes perform. Want to know a secret? I wanted to be a Rockette when I was little. Turns out I wasn’t tall enough nor did I have long enough legs. But…I do make my daughters (and sister if we’re together) do the kick line with me each year. It’s tradition. I usually pull something and end up limping around but it’s always totally worth it to indulge in my childhood dream.

Amen Paper Company’s Advent Calendar and Devotional. I am so excited to be using Amen Paper Company’s Devotional this year. They have chosen a word for each day to go with the phrase “let it be”. Each day of the devotional coordinates with each day of the calendar (sold separately). Both the devotional and the calendar features lettering and art by Lindsay Letters.

I haven’t always used Advent Devotionals but I started a few years ago with Ann Voskamp’s The Greatest Gift: Unwrapping The Full Love Story of Christmas. It really helped me to stay focused and centered on what this season is really about. Each year since I’ve tried a new devotional and this year I can’t wait to try Amen’s. I have a hunch it may be my new favorite. You can only purchase it until the end of the day today. So hurry over and get your copy today. Or you win one from me! That’s right, I am giving away one copy of Amen’s Advent Devotional. Enter your name and email below to be entered into a drawing to receive a copy.
