Happy New Year! Today is the first day in the new series, 4 Easy Steps to Create a Life You Love. I am so glad you are here.
This series is for anyone who:
- is unhappy with their current life but is unsure how to change
- wants more, and wants less, but doesn’t know how to reach a balance
- is tired of living run-down, rushed and ragged
- wishes they could finally start living the life they have always dreamed of
This series will allow you to create a life you love by guiding you through four easy steps: Prioritize, Plan, Practice, and Protect. Each Wednesday in January, I will post the new step along with the subsequent actions to take in order to intentionally create that life. Each post will also have printable worksheets to help you along the way.
This series is a culmination of all I’ve learned in the past year of my life. If you have followed me for a while, you know that my whole life was flipped upside down last December. Three days after Christmas I was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism. Unsure of what the hours and days following held for me, I was forced, alone, in pain, in a hospital room to take a good hard look at my life and I didn’t like what I saw. I vowed then and there if I walked out of that room I would change. These steps are the result of the last year of rearranging my life and realigning my priorities to create a life I love.
A year ago I got a second chance. And you can have one too.
Are you ready? I hope you’re just as excited as I am. By the end of January, you will be living a life you love. Let’s get started!
Step One: Prioritize
Today we are going to cast a vision of the life you want then we are going to prioritize the most important things in order to make that life a reality.
Can I give you some good news? You get to choose who you spend time with, how you spend your time and what you spend money on. It is your life. If you don’t like it you get to change it.
As part of this week’s exercise I want you to take a minute and ask yourself what does your ideal life, a life you love, look like? Who/what would you want to spend your time with/on? Leave obligation out of it. Dream big for a moment. Do you want to go back to school, change occupations, lose weight, pursue a hobby, build stronger relationships?
Set a timer for 5-10 minutes. When the timer goes off write down your thoughts in the space provided on the worksheet.
Using your dream big exercise, list the five top things you want to make a priority in your life. I realize that life is complicated and you may be thinking my life is comprised of way more than five things. But for this exercise, we are going to limit it to just five, the top five. Think of it as your greatest hits list. You may have dozens of songs but only a few greatest hits.
Write them down. If you can, order them from 1-5. One being the most important and so on. Hang it on your wall. As you go about your daily life this week, evaluate if you are succeeding or failing in making those things a priority each day.
The idea behind this week’s exercise is we are going to intentionally build our new life, a life we love, around these five top priorities. We don’t know how much time we have, so we must make the most of it. But that doesn’t mean cramming it with more stuff, and with more things to do. It means prioritizing what matters most, living out those priorities and protecting them.
I am so excited for you. This is the beginning of a life you love. If you’d like to share your list feel free to comment below or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
